In order to meet a growing demand for eco-responsible products and to be in line with our sustainable development principles, we have created the UPGREEN label. A partnership with an external laboratory has allowed us to make a selection of nearly 80 references of professional kitchen equipment that deserve this label. The entire range is exclusive to METRO. It must meet strict requirements in terms of durability and energy saving, but also reliability and robustness. The 4 pillars of the label are:
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
This is the calculation of the energy efficiency of a process or device in relation to its energy input. This results in a rating from A+++ to D or G, with A+++ being the most optimal efficiency rating. Our Desmon refrigerated range, certified ISO 14 00, achieves very low consumption thanks to its CFC-free cyclopentane insulation. Energy efficiency aims to reduce ecological and economic costs, thus reducing the carbon footprint of products in service.
REDUCTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT DURING PRODUCTION
This involves analyzing the materials that make up the items. The Upgreen label benefits from state-of-the-art ecological polyurethane insulation. With a thickness of 75 mm, the largest on the market, it is developed by the Cooling Lab®:
• Polyurethane guaranteed without ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and without GWP (Global Warming Potential)
• Materials free of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons)
• Reduction of CO2 emissions
• 50% reduction in energy consumption on refrigerated units.
We also favor French and European manufacturing sites that have environmental certification.
RECYCLABILITY OF MATERIALS
The recyclability rate of the construction materials used is taken into account. This involves having the highest percentage of recoverable or reusable material.
EQUIPMENT LIFESPAN
The references we select must have a longer than average lifespan. Their design must therefore promote their repairability and demonstrability.
